Semira is a Provisional Licensed Professional Counselor from Jackson, MS. At Count It All Joy, she is currently gaining her full license. As a second-generation Bengali American (fluent in Bengali) and LGBTQ+ advocate, she integrates cultural awareness and celebrates diversity to help patients achieve inner peace through emotional regulation.
Semira graduated from Delta State University with a Master in Clinical Mental Health. She also obtained her certification from the National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC), which advances counseling and equitable access to mental health services worldwide through certification, assessment, advocacy, and capacity-building. In her time at Count It All Joy thus far, Semira has developed skills in emotional regulation to help clients manage their emotional wellness and find inner peace.
Semira deeply values learning how to regulate emotions and creating a space for inner peace. She sees mental health to be just as important as physical health. By using a variety of resources, Semira shows individuals how to benefit from regulated emotions in a healthy way. For individuals wanting to feel “normal” and not overwhelmed, she validates their feelings and helps them move forward confidently.
"We talk about building a strong foundation. It starts with the floors, walls, and windows, then we can start the therapy work."
While she finds all aspects of healing exciting, Semira focuses on self-acceptance and inner peace through regulated emotions. She feels that without emotional regulation, you can't move forward. For her sessions, that is an essential step to progress effectively. Semira encourages individuals to take care of their mental health by working on embracing their authentic selves in any environment. She acts as a guide to encourage finding the best path forward with a non-biased and non-religious approach. Her inclusively secular approach has even impacted the lives of religious patients, speaking to her "all are welcome" inner peace perspective. Semira truly makes everyone feel welcome, no matter their views or differences.
With a bubbly and inquisitive nature, Semira aims to focus her sessions on her clients' personal values and beliefs without religious expectations or judgment. Her belief that anyone can achieve inner peace is not limited by their background or demographics. Semira's clients credit her with helping them accept themselves with her emotional regulation practices. She utilizes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) to identify suppressed emotions and help individuals feel in control of their life as who they truly are. Her positive attitude helps individuals see that real change is possible with the right tools, and of course, regulated emotions.
"I want them to be comfortable talking to me and be seen and heard. I’m non-biased. I’m here to listen."
Along with her evidence-based resources and emotional regulation approach, Semira helps clients improve their troubles with depression, anxiety, and PTSD. She takes a special interest in helping 20-somethings navigate their identity as they come into adulthood. In regular evaluations, Semira assesses individuals' improvement to ensure their path to inner peace is still on track. With a unique and inclusive point of view, Semira is perfect for those looking to feel welcome and embraced as they learn how to regulate emotions with their evolving identities.
